Dear friends and visitors!
Thanks for coming back to my website.
I am now in the middle of the French 2008 Tour with the Glenn Miller Memorial Orchestra.
We started back in January, in the sunny south of the country, with some fantastic gigs in Marseille, Bordeaux or Toulouse. In Albi, my good friend (and our band leader!) Frank White once again took me to visit that great cathedral, the biggest one in the world built with red bricks! There is so much to learn on the road!
We then gradually left the south and moved towards the centre of France, with Limoges on our way, and then to the east of the country. The Strasbourg show was extra special for me as many family members and friends came to see us. I couldn't believe how many of them were there! We all met at the Hilton bar after the show, and they invited me for a nice meal in one of my favourite restaurants! What a fantastic night!
The next day, we drove to Paris for a concert at the amazing Olympia Hall!
In this new show, we play Glenn's biggest hits, but also music from the
repertoire of some of the other great orchestras of the Swing Era, like
Benny Goodman, Harry James, or Count Basie. Our singer, Paul Wood, is
absolutely superb in his tribute to Frank Sinatra. With Fiona Paige,
they sing a few more recent arrangements, some featured on the 'Swing
when your Winning' Robbie Williams' album! This is the best band we've
had on the road so far, and if you don't want to miss the opportunity
to see a 19 piece Big Band, please come to see us!
Following that, in Alsace, I met up with my friend Frank Bedez who was recording his album there and ended up recording a track for him, with Ian Brown on vocals. It was a great session, we played live in the Studio and Ian's voice is absolutely superb! I will let you know when the cd is out for sale.
I then flew back to London where the Jazz Dynamos kept me busy with a nice bunch of gigs. We just got back from Tuscany where we had a great time, lots of Italian food and Chianti!
Thanks to Sabian , and particularly to Bruce Parry and Jerome Marcus, I am lucky enough to play a wonderful set of cymbals, with two 22" rides, an Artisan Medium Ride and an HHX Legacy Heavy Ride, a pair of 14" Legacy Hi Hats and three amazing crashes, a 19" HHXtreme, another 19" Signature Fierce Crash as well as a 18" HHX Manhatan Jazz. Bruce and Jerome never stop to amaze me, their knowledge of cymbals, sounds, and their passion for music and musicians are a great source of inspiration to me! Thank you guys!
For our French fans, we will play at the Festival de Musique Franco-Americaine on June 28th in Thiais near Paris, France.
If you come to see us, please do not hesitate to say hello after the show.
I hope to see you soon!
Thanks for your visit!
Dom.
